Why is it that some people seem to be succeeding at everything they do? Why do they move ahead by leaps and bounds while others, much more talented, it seems are not even getting anywhere?

Reading success stories and learning from successful people has been one of my obsessions over the years. I’ve been particularly fascinated by the success story of one of most influential men of late 20th century, Sam Walton.
From a humble beginning, facing business challenges, learning from everyone and from failures, Sam Walton created a company that became the world’s largest retailer – Wal-Mart. With just a simple idea to help others save money so they could live better, he created Wal-Mart, the #1 retailer in the world.

If you have known me for any length of time, you know that I attend many business conferences every year. I usually attend a least two or three every quarter. In fact, as I write this, I am getting ready for the next 3 day major business conference coming up on the East Coast next month.
To me, it is a great way to meet other successful entrepreneurs coming from different walks of life and network with them. Many times I take a few of my close friends and business associates with me to these conferences and amaze them with the value these conferences add to their life with the compelling messages that come from the stage.

It is true that social networking and internet marketing have changed a lot of things in the world in last a few years. People’s perspective has been rapidly changing about networking. More and more businesses are adapting to the networking business model.

But I still see so many people who, for one reason or another, continue to resist networking. They seem to think that it is a lot of work to network with little or no return on investment of their time and efforts.

Promotions of the Free Enterprise System, the rise of social media and declining job markets have caused a significant increase in the number of independent consultants. That means more people are choosing entrepreneurship as their career path.
If you’re an expert at anything, you have an opportunity to start a consulting business and become a known expert in your niche. You don't have to be in some really cool business to succeed. You don't even need to have a large marketing budget.

Living in denial is a very common occurrence and at one time or another we all fall into the trap. It seems very natural, and at times we feel pride in living in denial. Yet, it takes a toll on our lives.

I thought, just as many people coming from a middle class family think, that being rich isn’t necessarily a very good thing. Growing up I watched Bollywood movies where rich people always seemed to accumulate wealth by stealing from the less powerful and the poor.
I remember creating my LinkedIn profile near the beginning of 2006, not knowing if it was something I really needed. I created the profile because a colleague at work referred me to LinkedIn.
I just signed up because I didn’t want to disappoint my friends. I got started, entered a few details and didn’t bother to login again for several months.
Just like everyone else, I got a few LinkedIn promotional emails from time to time. I also received a few connection requests from other people once every few days. Those things kept me engaged and once in a while, I did login to accept or reject the requests or read messages etc.
But I wasn’t serious about LinkedIn or any social networking site (including Google’s Orkut) for a long time.
